I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember, while raising a family of five children, but since they have almost all left the nest, I have definitely worked much harder at producing my artwork.
I mainly work in pastel pencils, black and white charcoal, or pen. I have also used watercolour, oil and acrylic (and occasionally still do). My work would have to be classed as realism as I love getting all the fine detail, no matter what the subject. Since about 2009 I have concentrated on doing commissions, mainly dogs, but also horses, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more recently, people. I love the challenge of commissions and haven't had any disappointed customers to date. My subjects vary, but I am particularly drawn to animals, still life and people, and occasionally landscapes. I have work in private collections in most states of Australia, and in New Zealand and America. My work can be seen on my Facebook page mentioned under slideshow. Over the years I have attended watercolour classes with Rosemary Mastnak, portrait classes with Audrey Wilson, general painting and drawing classes with Margaret Barnes, life drawing with David Marsden, pastel classes with Leonie Duff, commercial art with Richard Hill, as well as doing a three year Painting Certificate at TAFE in the early 1990's, which involved painting and life drawing. I've also attended a number of workshops. But I prefer to be home alone in my studio painting for hours and hours, - but time just passes by, way too fast! I am a member of the Launceston Art Society and have been a committee member for many years. I love my job as Assistant Exhibition Coordinator, and also strive to always produce paintings for the constant LAS exhibitions. I also exhibit in exhibitions such as NEACA (Scottsdale), TasArt (Burnie), Artex (Ulverstone), and Eskleigh's Tasmanian Art Award (Perth), and others, and I have had three joint exhibitions with my father, Jack James.
