Louise Skabo |
It was not until Louise Skabo sold her business and retired in 2002 that she began drawing and painting although she had always loved sketching . Due to a developing interest in native Australian plants, Louise joined Rosemary Hill’s Adult Education Drawing Class and later her Watercolour Classes, in order to gain the skills to enable her to pursue botanical art.
However, she soon realised that she loved painting the wonderful variety of shapes in the landscape including buildings, boats, people, animals, the mountains and seashore, as well as still life. She is keen to continue landscape painting and developing her skills in the delightful although demanding medium of watercolour. Louise enjoys tuition with Rosemary Hill, and also acquires new skills and inspiration attending Launceston Art Society Workshops with visiting professional artists like Joseph Zbukvic and Ev Hales from Victoria, and local Tasmanian artists. Louise’s watercolours have been exhibited and sold with the Launceston Art Society and various other Art Exhibitions in the north of Tasmania over the last few years. Louise also gets much enjoyment and satisfaction from being an active participant of the Launceston Art Society and has been Publicity Officer and Membership Officer where, along with other Committee members, she assisted member artists to promote their work and continue to develop their talent through exhibitions, workshops and the internet. Louise has also held the position of Secretary, Vice President and President and was awarded Life Membership of the LAS in 2016 for outstanding service to the society. |
